Italian Meatball Sub Casserole

Italian Meatball Sub Casserole Recipe

1/3 cup chopped green onion (or for your taste)
1/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs (I use Progresso Italian Style brand)
1/4 cup of freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 pound of lean ground beef
1 loaf Italian bread or French bread baguette (cut in 1/2 inch thick slices)
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup mayonnaise (avoid non-fat or low-fat kind, I use regular Miracle Whip)
1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided in half
1 (28 oz) jar of spaghetti sauce (I either use Giada De Lauentis' spaghetti sauce brand or I make it homemade)
1 cup of water
2 large garlic cloves, minced

Italian Meatball Sub Casserole Recipe Directions:

Preheat oven to 400° degrees F. In a bowl, combine the onions, bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese. Add the ground beef and mix well. Shape into one-inch balls; place on a rack. In a shall baking pan, bake for 15-20 minutes or until no longer pink. Reduce oven temperature to 350° degrees F. Now arrange your bread in a single layer in an ungreased 13x9x2-inch baking pan or casserole dish. Combine cream cheese, mayonnaise, Italian seasoning and pepper; spread over the bread. Sprinkle with half of the mozzarella cheese. Combine the spaghetti sauce, water and garlic; add meatballs. Pour this over the cheese mixture; sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella cheese. Bake, uncovered at 350° degrees F. for half and hour, or until heated thoroughly.
